My Wonderful Boys!

Okay, sorry if my blog is getting annoying with so many random posts but I'm trying to do good for the grandparents since we aren't going to be home for Christmas. There are pics that I've been meaning to put on and some pics of crafts we've done and I don't really know what else... I'm going to just start adding pics so here we go...

I finally caught him smiling on camera!

I don't know how he got like this but I thought it was pretty funny!

We made these for all of Oscar's friends out here. And yes they are Christian's old socks but I did wash them before we used them!

I love having boys!

Our friend made these Lightsabers for the Christian and Oscar! Aren't they amazing!

If Oscar had it his way he would never leave the house with out these two whisks. The boy loves cooking.

One of my personal favorites!

Oscar and Felix-no not the odd couple.. my children

Just a quick update...

Felix had his two month doc appointment yesterday and his results were 13.2 lbs and 23 1/2 in. Felix is only .4 oz smaller (exact same height) from what Oscar was at this age. He is smiling, laughing, and loves watching Oscar run back and forth (over and over and over). He is eating well and sleeping amazingly. Last night he slept from 11:30 to 6:30! That's never happened but I hope there are more nights like that in the future. Felix also never had his right ear pass the hearing test before we left the hospital when he was born and so we waited a little bit and tried again.. it failed. So then he had to go to a hearing doctor and it failed there. Now we have to go to a specialist in Columbia to see what is wrong or if it's just his canal that's shaped different and doesn't allow the machine to get all the way to his ear drum. I personally think he's fine because he responds really well to everything but better safe than sorry. For the most part he is doing fabulous and we love having him here.

Oscar is being Oscar. He is getting his two year old molars in and I think they are the worst yet. He has so much pain with them.. All day he says 'mom, teeth hurt'. I give him tylenol and orajel numbing ointment but nothing seems to get rid of the pain entirely. Oscar loves having his brother here as well. He constantly runs from the kitchen to the living room and when he enters the room Felix happens to be in at the time he says 'hi Fegus' and runs back to the other room over and over again.. 'hi Fegus', 'hi Fegus'. I love how he loves Fegus! His latest craze is the movie Walle. I saw that one in the theaters when it came out and hated it. I thought 'Wow, Pixar let me down. Unbelievable'. Well Pixar I sincerely apologize. I don't know what I was thinking. Walle is amazing! Not only is it a great story and super funny (I love the tennis malfunctioned robot that keeps hitting tennis balls at all the other malfunctioned robots!) but having the first thirty minutes of no talking and calming music for me as a mother to Oscar (who if things were his way would watch it five times in one day) makes things a little more tolerable. Way to go Pixar-I will never doubt again!

Incompetent husband, even more incompetent father

Christian speaking. Two quick stories.

The Incompetent Husband: As many know, Eclipse just came out on DVD. As Kenna's husband, I feel that its my duty to try my best to surprise her with fun things when I can. As her family can attest, easier said than done. So I wanted to surprise her with Eclipse and I came up with a plan to throw her off my scent. The plan was this: on the day the package was supposed to arrive, I would call her from school and tell her that I had ordered a textbook for school but I wasn't sure if I had ordered the right edition. So I would then ask her to open the package when it arrived and check the table of contents to see if it had some made-up chapter. Not a terrible plan and I think it might have worked except for a few problems. One problem was my fault in that I didn't bring up the textbook until the day of, so she was naturally suspicious. The other problem was that when I asked her to look for a chapter, I told her to look for a chapter on renal surgery (as in kidney surgery), but she thought I said anal surgery which made her even more suspicious. Needless to say, the attempt to surprise her was unsuccessful.

The Incompetent Father: The other night Kenna had a Christmas party to go to for all the spouses of the students. That left me in charge at home and I only had one job: Give Felix a bath. Oscar was in bed so I didn't anticipate it to be very hard except that Felix always cries when bathed. Always. So I took him upstairs, filled up his tub, and took him into our room and got him down to his diaper. I took him into the bathroom and realized that I had a problem. Unlike Oscar, Felix can't stand on his own for me to take his diaper off. I was holding him on my shoulder with my forearm because my hands were a little cold (for those that don't know, Felix hates the cold in the same way that cats hate swimming). So I sneak my hands in and undo his diaper and drop it to the floor. That's when I notice that the diaper is poopy. Now I'm in real trouble because I have no where to put him. So I turn him around so his back is on my chest and I pull his legs up to his chin so his little bottom is poking outwards. I go back into our room and get out the wipes and try to clean him in that position. It takes about two seconds for me to get poop all over my arm and unbeknown to me, my shirt. The diaper is much worse than I anticipated and it takes a whole lot of wipes. Eventually its all cleaned up and he gets his bath. The only amazing thing about the whole process is that he never cried. Not once. I am an amazing dad.

This is my shirt that I somehow didn't notice until I got to school to study with a group of people. Kenna noticed it but for some reason she didn't say anything because she thought I had been playing with markers. Why an adult of 27 years would be playing with markers on his shirt after the kids are in bed is beyond me. But to her credit, when my study group asked what was on my shirt, I just told them I had been playing with markers.

One Week Off...

Christian finished finals last week so he got the Thanksgiving week off. We started off with a big grocery shopping trip (because I have yet figured out how to grocery shop with two kids.. if you put the car seat in the basket and have Oscar sit in the seat guess what, there is no room for anything else. I'll just have to experiment I guess). Monday we went to Columbia, MO which is 1 1/2 hours away (Because that is the closest town with more stores than walmart). Tuesday we cleaned house and hung out as a family some more. Wednesday was Thanksgiving prep day. Thanksgiving was at my house this year and we did it with one other family so there. I made the turkey, stuffing, rolls, salad, cheese ball, pumpkin cookies and homemade Oreo cookies. The other family had equally if not more to make than I did but you got to have a variety of food.. it's Thanksgiving! Then Thursday was Thanksgiving but at our house it was also Oscar's birthday! I officially have a 2 year old! Weird. Friday Christian and I went to see Harry Potter. Saturday (today) was Temple day. We left at 10:30 and didn't get back till 6:30 and that was a short trip (normally we have to swap kids while one of us goes in but it was Ward Temple day so we had babysitters). That's it for us this week. Christian goes back on Monday to begin his sixth quarter. Only two quarter's left! Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Delivery...

So it's been a month but I'm finally posting about the delivery. I've had family here so I decided to visit and have my last chance for a social life before everyone left. On to the delivery...

So I had been dilated at a four for a while now and no contractions. Felix felt like he was falling out of me and it was very uncomfortable so I told the doc to induce me. Friday morning (Oct. 15) I dropped Oscar off at my friends house and got to the hospital at 7:30 to fill out paperwork. Paperwork was done and I was hooked up and ready to start with the inducement by eight. The doc came in checked me... I was at a four STILL but guess what I could see Felix's head (that explains why I was so uncomfortable). How is that possible? Well he had dropped below my cervix so there is no way I would have dilated normally cause it was just getting stretched (if that makes sense). I'm convinced that Felix was guarding my water because if I can see his head, with that kind of pressure it should have broken. So the doc broke my water but I told him I would prefer to not give birth if at all possible till after 9:30 because Christian was in the middle of a test and he would not be here till then (thank you med school). Christian ended up showing up at 8:30ish (finished early on the test) so that was a relief. I started to get really painful contractions so I asked for an epidural but they were late getting there so it was around 10:30 that I got one. However they had not checked my dilation since the first time and I think I was already at a ten because 11:30 came and I just felt like I needed to push so I told the doc that I was ready.. he checked and said ok push and he'll be out. I pushed twice and he was born. Yes, it was less than a minute.. don't think I will ever break that record. I guess that makes sense though since I could see his head already. (Side note: When I was getting the IV and epidural (anything involving needles) I almost passed out and kept telling them that but they would not allow ice chips or anything so they kept giving me alcohol wipes to smell but the nurses kept saying that I'll be fine and not to over react.. that they have never had anyone pass out on them before.) So after giving birth, I went to the bathroom and almost passed out again (Christian was now gone by this point to get Oscar). The nurse told me that we were going to change to the post delivery room but I told her that I didn't feel good. She assured me I wouldn't pass out and everything would be ok... So I stepped out of my delivery room and said again 'I don't feel good'... that's the last thing I remember. Woke up in some chair. Let's just say they were shocked. Not really for me though cause that was like the 50th time I've passed out (pregnancy does weird things to me). So oddly enough there was no wheel chair in the HOSPITAL so they used one of those rolly chairs from their computers. If I was not dizzy enough that chair definitely made it worse. Christian showed up and the conversation went like this...
Nurse: So your wife passed out on us...
Christian: Oh ya, she does that all the time to me
Nurse: What? How come no one told us that?
BAAA... I told them at least six times that I was about to pass out. Maybe they will listen to the next girl who says she's going to pass out.
Well the only other complaint I have is on the food they served me. I tried to eat it with out getting nauseous but every meal was a disaster and the next day I was released to go home and right before I stepped out of the door I threw up all the food. I tried so hard to keep it down but it refused to stay put. Overall I was glad to be out of there. All in all turns out my pregnancies are not great but my labors are awesome. That's it.

Felix is growing so fast already. I think he's almost 11 pounds now. At the doc last week he was 10.8 and he has grown a lot since. I've been back to my normal clothes for a little while now and it feels great to have my own body back! I'll try to post some pics of Felix soon. They are all on our other computer that for some reason quit on us.. hopefully we can get that fixed.

Moving to...

Sorry, I have not had time to pull a post together about Felix and our new lives (hopefully this week it will happen) but I have a free minute to post about where we are moving to next year.

So Kirksville is too small to have all the students do rotations at the hospital here so they have the students move somewhere else for the last two years of med school. I'm not into moving a lot but I'm glad I'm only in Kirksville for two years. I'm sick of buying all my families clothes from Walmart. So on to where we are moving... bdddddddddd (that's suppose to be a drum roll) YORK, PENNSYLVANIA! We will be there for a least two years and if all goes well, up to eight years. Our hope is to get into their residency program after Christian graduates med school.

PS. Felix had a doctors appointment today and he weighs 10 lbs already. If I'm carrying both boys that's a total of 46 lbs. Lets just say my arms are going to be ripped!

Felix was born today at 11:40. He weighed in at 9 lbs and 1 oz and he was 21 inches tall. More details to come!

Mornings

This is what it looks like when we come to get Oscar from his room in the mornings. It's also what it looks like once he falls asleep at night but every night I go in there after he is asleep and clear out his bed so he can sleep better. I don't know if I could explain enough how much this kid loves reading.

Quick Update...

Life is going good. Christian has officially dove back into school. His first test this quarter is tomorrow. He went to bed at eight tonight because studies start at five tomorrow morning. This means that Oscar will not be seeing his dad as much but on the other hand I will no longer have to deal with Christian's lessons with Oscar of running into walls, sword fights, and head butting (AKA 'noggin' from Finding Nemo). If I was not so pregnant those things might be more fun to do but I refuse to run into a wall, sword fighting is not too bad, and head butting is more like Oscar's head smashing into my stomach. We are still waiting for baby boy number two to arrive. He's still got about four more weeks in the oven but if he decided to come a little early I would not complain. I had some good pics of Oscar but I'm using Christian's school computer and can't figure out how to get those pics on the blog so I'll have to post them another day.

PS. Happy International Talk Like A Pirate Day!

Sugar Cookies

On Christian's week off I decided that we would make sugar cookies with Oscar. I split it into three days... the first day we just mixed up the batter and let it sit in the fridge over night. Next we did the cutting and baking which I think that was Oscar's favorite part. He got his own dough to have while I rolled some out and I guess he thought (I never really know what is going through his mind) that his needed to be flat like mommy's was so he set the dough next to him, stood up and then sat on the dough. Oddly enough when he stood up to look and see how flat his dough got it was no longer on the table and he didn't know were it went so naturally he just needed more. I let this go on a few rounds cause I thought it was so funny to watch. The last day we decorated. I matched the frosting colors with the color cups we have and Oscar loved watching the transformation of white frosting into yellow (le-low), green (geen), etc. We had dinosaurs, cars, trucks, stars, ducks, trains and lastly Nemo's. He didn't care too much about putting the frosting on the cookies, he mostly enjoyed picking out the colors and giving it to us to decorate with.

Oscar was trying to put his feet on the cookies the whole time we were trying to take a picture but he wouldn't stop so I just had to hold them down.

Life Changing Events...

We had two life changing events yesterday and today...

One... Oscar has officially moved to a big boy bed. More like we took down the front rail of his crib and put up the guard rail. But he loves it! He now gets in and out all on his own and he doesn't feel trapped. We put him to bed tonight and he climbed right in the bed, put his head on the pillow and went to sleep. I think I panicked more than he did. I couldn't believe it went so well. I know not all nights will be like this one but for now I'm enjoying it.

Two... I finally broke down and bought maternity jeans. This would be the first time I have ever purchased maternity clothes (minus one belly band that I used Oscar's entire pregnancy and this one till now). I think it was the best purchase I have ever made. They are the most comfortable things in the world. My life forever more will be changed. It's only been two days since the purchase but I already have a more positive outlook on life and pregnancy... Maybe I can do this again in the future. I have yet to buy shirts or skirts or anything else but I fear those days will be short lived.

Oscar's Faces

Oscar does some really funny faces and I can never get them on camera but one night he went crazy and we happen to have the camera on and ready at the right time. Here's were some that we got.

Also, Oscar is known for one thing and that is the EVIL EYE. He started doing this look and so we titled it that. We have never caught it on camera oddly enough but Grandpa Anderson did and I think it was the best one yet. Also, this is the look he gives to everyone we pass at the grocery store it gets sort of embarrassing but I still think it's funny.

Summer Part Two

We arrived in Salt Lake and lived with my Aunt Nan for the next three weeks. During those three weeks we started off with visiting Christian’s brother Peter and their wonderful family. We met our nephew Calvin for the first time. I’ve forgotten how little they are… it made me excited for mine to come. Then that first weekend we went to the Zoo with my parents. I don’t think Oscar cares much for animals. He would take one look and be ready to move on. My mom took him on the carousel over and over again and he would have stayed on that the whole time if he could have. We also visited Temple Square and toured the Conference building. The following weekend Christian’s family came up and stayed for the week. While they were here we enjoyed Calvin’s baby blessing, the Museum of Natural History, Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum, a concert at Snow Bird, the Zoo again (Oscar still had no interest) and the Farmer’s Market. Not to mention many nights of just being with family. We left Salt Lake at the end of that week to be to my brother’s farewell that Sunday. We spent that next week in St. George with all the family again to say our goodbyes. Christian left a few days before me to make it back in time to pick me up from the airport. My parents took me to the airport in Vegas and if I never fly again especially with kids then I would be a happy person. Let’s just say the lady sitting in front of me loudly announced my child was beating her and she would like to move seats then the guy sitting next to me tried to move seats but was not allowed to because of plane complications so he decided to get really really drunk. I was actually relieved once he was drunk because he was way friendlier and nice to me. Those were the highlights… It just never seems to turn out well for me. We made it safely home and enjoyed one week together as a family before Christian began school. School is now in progress and I do miss Christian not being able to be home but it’s nice to be in my own home and back on a schedule. Also, Oscar’s new favorite movie is Finding Nemo. All day long all he does is say ‘Nemo Nemo’ in this high pitched voice. He will also throw in ‘Dude’ (that’s what he thinks all turtles are called) and when shark bait (Nemo) is being initiated into the tankhood all the fish do a little chant so to speak and Oscar knows it all. It’s pretty funny but I admit I am getting tired hearing it. Also, Oscar had his doctor appointment when we got back and he weights 33.6 lbs (98%) and is 35 inches tall (95%). Oddly enough there is not an ounce of fat on this kid… no wonder I was having contractions from lifting him too much. Enjoy some more pics!

I think we wore him out. One of the few times that has ever happened.

I think he will be a wonderful big brother!

We're Back...

Summer Part One
Sorry it has been so long since I last updated the blog but we have had one busy summer. I’m going to post our summer vacations in two different posts so let’s start at the beginning…
Christian’s finals ended and the next day I flew out to Vegas and then drove on up to St. George. As Christian mentioned in the last post, the flight didn’t go as well as I’d hoped because of Oscar’s blow out diaper and the air craft didn’t have any place where they would let me change the diaper so he had to sit in it for about 30 minutes. After the plane ride everything was pretty smooth. My mother-in-law picked us up and Oscar slept basically the whole two hours home. Over the next few days we both had to catch up on some sleep and Oscar had somewhat of a hard time adjusting to the new environment and sleeping quarters but after that Oscar was back to being himself which means his obsession with cooking was back. We stayed at my in-laws for the first ten days in St. George and Oscar helped cook every meal basically and fixed all the problems on Grandpa (Bapa) Anderson’s bike. We also went to the splash pad and Oscar had a blast. He now is not afraid of the shower. After our time at my in-laws we headed over to my parents to stay for the next two weeks. My parents have a little plastic kid pool so Oscar enjoyed playing in that quite often. Also, this is where we found Oscar’s new found love. He has always been OBSESSED with doors so when I put on the movie Monster’s Inc. it was amazing how attached he became. He watched the entire movie and demanded he watch it every day. I tried to limit it but let’s face it, he got his way majority of the time because I didn’t want to put up with the tantrums. Don’t worry I have been getting better at saying NO and dealing with the tantrums. After the three weeks apart Christian ended his preceptorship and drove on out to St. George. Unfortunately the A/C in our car went out before he left so he had to drive those 20 hours without A/C. It sounded awful. When he got to St. George we switched cars with my parents so my dad could fix our A/C and headed for Salt Lake the next day. Here are some pics to start you off with.

I don't think he fits into high chairs anymore... just a guess.

He loves grandma's boots!

I told him to get his church clothes and this is what I got. If they frown upon 'beach attire' I'm pretty sure this won't pass.

His favorite hobby that has just gotten better cause he has actual food instead of the barrel of monkeys and what's let of his animal crackers to cook.

I don't know what it is with kids and sunglasses but they think they are sooo cute, funny and cool. Fortunately I think the same thing!

Oscar and Ella sharing their sippy cups (more like Oscar stealing it then 'graciously' giving it back). Thank you Ella for putting up with him!

Oscar was mad at me and trying to yell to the people in the other room to come save him. Fortunately the door was warped shut so he couldn't get it open when normally he would have just ran out.

Yes.. he will find your pots and pans and start cooking no matter whose house he is in. But no worries he will clean up after himself. Poor kid has my OCD to an extreme.

Always a helper. Of coarse he had to have the hoe that grandpa was using so that makes things a little difficult.
