We're Back...

Summer Part One
Sorry it has been so long since I last updated the blog but we have had one busy summer. I’m going to post our summer vacations in two different posts so let’s start at the beginning…
Christian’s finals ended and the next day I flew out to Vegas and then drove on up to St. George. As Christian mentioned in the last post, the flight didn’t go as well as I’d hoped because of Oscar’s blow out diaper and the air craft didn’t have any place where they would let me change the diaper so he had to sit in it for about 30 minutes. After the plane ride everything was pretty smooth. My mother-in-law picked us up and Oscar slept basically the whole two hours home. Over the next few days we both had to catch up on some sleep and Oscar had somewhat of a hard time adjusting to the new environment and sleeping quarters but after that Oscar was back to being himself which means his obsession with cooking was back. We stayed at my in-laws for the first ten days in St. George and Oscar helped cook every meal basically and fixed all the problems on Grandpa (Bapa) Anderson’s bike. We also went to the splash pad and Oscar had a blast. He now is not afraid of the shower. After our time at my in-laws we headed over to my parents to stay for the next two weeks. My parents have a little plastic kid pool so Oscar enjoyed playing in that quite often. Also, this is where we found Oscar’s new found love. He has always been OBSESSED with doors so when I put on the movie Monster’s Inc. it was amazing how attached he became. He watched the entire movie and demanded he watch it every day. I tried to limit it but let’s face it, he got his way majority of the time because I didn’t want to put up with the tantrums. Don’t worry I have been getting better at saying NO and dealing with the tantrums. After the three weeks apart Christian ended his preceptorship and drove on out to St. George. Unfortunately the A/C in our car went out before he left so he had to drive those 20 hours without A/C. It sounded awful. When he got to St. George we switched cars with my parents so my dad could fix our A/C and headed for Salt Lake the next day. Here are some pics to start you off with.

I don't think he fits into high chairs anymore... just a guess.

He loves grandma's boots!

I told him to get his church clothes and this is what I got. If they frown upon 'beach attire' I'm pretty sure this won't pass.

His favorite hobby that has just gotten better cause he has actual food instead of the barrel of monkeys and what's let of his animal crackers to cook.

I don't know what it is with kids and sunglasses but they think they are sooo cute, funny and cool. Fortunately I think the same thing!

Oscar and Ella sharing their sippy cups (more like Oscar stealing it then 'graciously' giving it back). Thank you Ella for putting up with him!

Oscar was mad at me and trying to yell to the people in the other room to come save him. Fortunately the door was warped shut so he couldn't get it open when normally he would have just ran out.

Yes.. he will find your pots and pans and start cooking no matter whose house he is in. But no worries he will clean up after himself. Poor kid has my OCD to an extreme.

Always a helper. Of coarse he had to have the hoe that grandpa was using so that makes things a little difficult.

Mashed Potato Water

To celebrate the finish of my first year in medical school, we decided to go out to dinner with our friends. Granted there aren't a lot of dining options in Kirksville besides the infamous Pancake City and their 24 hour spaghetti bar, but we did manage to find a Ruby Tuesdays. I was pretty tired as I had been getting about 3-4 hours of sleep a night for the last two weeks. I will never go to a restaurant again unless I'm fully ready to handle anything that can happen. Oscar can sense weakness in a parent the same way a feral dog can sense fear. We arrived at Ruby Tuesdays and noticed a bunch of tiny red bugs that were surrounding the restaurant on all sides. After asking around, we found that those were chiggers which apparently guard Ruby Tuesdays at all times from intruders and 18 month year olds in sandals. Fortunately we we able to evade them this time.

Once we sat down, Oscar decided that he didn't want to sit down. He's been doing this thing where he gets so excited/angry that he just starts shaking really hard. When we wouldn't let him out, he started crying and trying to grab anything he could reach on the table to throw it off. I decided to take him outside to walk around for a bit to get his energy out. This would have been fine except that we were half way to the door when he realizes that Kenna isn't coming with us. Naturally is she is not with us every second of the day, then she must be leaving us forever. Well, Oscar's not just going to let his mommy abandon him, so he goes into full fit throwing mode. Luckily I can still lift him (barely) and we made it out of the restaurant. After a walk with some chigger evasion maneuvers, we returned and sat down and all was well except that the waitress had been by approximately 22 times asking for our order (she came by every 1.2 minutes and apparently didn't realize that I was not at the table).

During the rest of dinner, Oscar methodically tried to destroy everything in his sight. I tried to calm him by letting him drink my water using my straw. He drank at first but then pulled out the straw, stuck it in Kenna's mashed potatoes and mixed it in with the water. He did this a few more times until the mashed potato to water ratio was just perfect. He stirred it up and then took a drink from the straw and then let it all fall out of his mouth and down his shirt. He then managed to sneak the cup from me and knock it over. At this point we had apparently reached the napkin limit cause the waitress did not seem too keen on giving us anymore. They apparently don't like stacks of napkins to rise more than four feet off the table. Maybe its a city ordinance or something. I don't know. Before we were done, Oscar managed to throw half of the silverware off the table and he almost succeeded in pulling off the tablecloth. Never in my life have I ever been so happy to see the check. I'll stop now so this blog post stays under a hundred pages but Oscar's reign of destruction continued this morning. He threw up all over himself while I was taking them to the airport in Kansas City and he apparently had a blow up diaper on the airplane which for those unfamiliar with baby terminology means that the diaper was unable to contain it's contents. Good times. Good times.

Congratulations it's a...

BOY
To be honest, I'm pretty exhausted from just having one boy let alone two. But my only hope is that it will be easier because Oscar can help entertain. Also, having a boy right now is pretty perfect cause I have all the right clothes for the seasons given Oscar was born in November. All in all though I'm excited and I know this will definitely be good for Oscar. He's been getting into this selfish mode and frankly I don't really like the attitude so it's about time he got over it. With this pregnancy I am still sick so I don't plan on that passing any time soon. Also with Oscar you could tell I was pregnant and that was great actually, cause now it just looks like I've let my self go (which technically is true) but I just keep reassuring myself that I am pregnant and then I don't really care as much. I also have had one main craving and that is MEAT. I love it... can't get enough of it... want to marry it... etc. I would by packages of bacon to fry up and eat (not just a couple slices, the whole bag). Lately I've been dying for Steak. Christian has been so busy with school but one night he decided to take me out on a date so I could have a steak. We went to the most wonderful restaurant in the world and I had a salad, two baskets of bread, mashed potatoes and a 8 oz Filet Mignon that was to die for. When I took the first bite of my steak I got so emotional, tears flowed and I was the happiest person alive. Since then I have made steak twice and have more in my fridge ready to go. Well, Oscar and I will be going to St. George on Saturday and we are so excited to see everyone. Poor Christian will be staying in Missouri for three weeks after I leave to do his preceptor ship and then he'll drive to SLC were we will then stay for three more weeks. It's going to be a long and busy summer but we can't wait!
